Do vegans/vegetarians kill insects?
How do vegans feel about pest control
Do vegans/vegetarians kill insects? (Insects & bugs) are a big part of the earth and some people kill them, but is ok to kill bugs & insects as a vegan?!
Veganism and vegetarianism have lots of aspects that we know all about, but there are some factors that I would like to tell you about.
Insects and bugs are a great deal to planet earth’s ecosystem; with them gone, we humans will not exist as well.
Sometimes these insects can annoy us, meaning they would interrupt our daily lives, whether it is a matter of a conversation that these bugs disturb or a good night’s sleep; in this article, we intend to solve the issue regarding insects and vegans.
Some believe killing bugs and insects is inhumane, while others think they must be eliminated.
In this article, I intend to answer some of the critical questions, such as:

Is it ok to kill insects as a vegan or vegetarian?

Do vegans kill bugs?
Sharing the outer space of our lives with insects is rough because insects tend to annoy us, especially in the summertime, when they reproduce and infest the environment.
Some of the vegans that I have met have different beliefs about this matter:
· Some of them believe that while the bugs and insects do not feel the pain and agony like us humans, they sense the danger, which causes them some trauma.
· And some others believe that because these bugs get in the way of our daily lives and sometimes cause us harm, they should be eliminated.
I can say that both of these facts are true, but it depends on the situation that we are currently in.
Further, I will tell you the details of these special conditions in the statement.
How do vegans justify killing insects?
The family of insects can be divided into specific groups, such as the one that has benefits for us and the earth and the ones that cause chaos.
Ants, rats, bees, and such are the bugs that I want to talk about.
As I mentioned, I want to tell you about some scenarios that would justify killing bugs as a vegan:
1. Intentionally, just for fun!!!
The first ones I want to tell you about are the ones that kill insects or bugs. Whether they cause them harm or not, they do it because they enjoy the rush. However, it is rather apparent that this is not a decent action
because we don’t want someone to take our life just because it is fun and their life is the same.
Killing bugs and insects just for fun is an action that we vegans must avoid at any cost.
2. Intentionally because they cause harm
Some insects that crawl on earth can harm you, like scorpions and mosquitos.
While they can sting, and some people may have an allergic reaction to these stings, or their bite or sting can be fatal to humans, we tend to kill them.
I have to say that killing bugs as a vegan to protect the ones you love and cherish is somewhat justified.
In other words, it is inevitable.
3. Accidently
As I mentioned, we live in the same ecosystem as these bugs and insects, and the only logical fact is that insect kills will happen, like when you are jogging. You accidentally squish an ant or, when driving, kill a mosquito with your windshield.
These are the natural causes that happen, and we have to deal with them, and as I said, these deaths are accidental and unknowingly; I think it is ok, and there is nothing you can do.
4. Potential threat or fear
I have seen so many people terrified of insects and bugs, and sometimes when they encounter these creatures, they tend to kill them out of fear or the potential danger.
When you are out on a picnic with your family and see a wasp, you get so scared that you yank to the field and kill it.
I’m not saying that killing these bugs out of fear is incorrect, but there are two types of anxiety:
· Rational
· Irrational
If that fear you have gets considered a threat to you and you have tried all of the ethical ways to remove the bug from your range, then you have the right to eliminate the bug.
But if your fear is irrational, like the fear of bees, you have to overcome your fear rather than killing the bug; for example, a honey bee will not sting you, but if you act like you are a threat to them, they will work on their fear because they have instincts.
So, you should always control your fear, and if there is no option, you have to eliminate the danger, and it would be ok.
Also, some rational and logical ways exist to eliminate these bugs and insects without killing them; let’s see the methods.
How do vegans feel about pest control?
Controversies continue concerning pest control among vegans, but I want to tell you some ways you can control these bugs and insects and remove them from your personal space without harming them.
1. Catch and release
The first method I suggest is the simplest way; you must overcome your fear, catch the bugs that crawl in your home or personal space, and then release them to their natural habitat.
2. Keep it clean
The second method works for most pantries and kitchens.
Insects usually get drawn to food, and the reason behind that is fact is that they are looking for food. And if you keep all your foods in a sealed space and you don’t leave any open spaces, insects will get away from your kitchen and home overall.
Make sure that you keep your kitchen clean as well.
3. Leave them be
The last alternative I would like to recommend is that you can always let them stay and share your living space or outdoors; however, keep in mind that you have to do so when they are not a threat to you or your family.
So, if they are harmless, just let them stay.
Now let’s get to the end, shall we?
In conclusion…
I’m Sara, and I have been vegan for more than seven years. My family and I have been struggling with the fact that insects and bugs are living alongside us. Still, I concluded that when these creatures do not cause harm to my family or me, it is not ethically proper to kill them.
I have listed some of the scenarios in that bugs get killed, and I explained each one and whether they are correct or not.
And then, I listed the ways that you can use to control pests.
In the end, I’m happy and appreciate the time you spent reading the “Do vegans kill insects?”statement.
