What is Veganism
Definition Veganism & Reasons for Veganism
Hi! I’m Sara, and I want to talk about veganism in this article. Veganism is a philosophy of living a specific lifestyle. All is about excluding animals cruelly for food and the fashion industry. In my mind, veganism tries to promote and develop animal-free alternatives to benefit the environment, especially animals.
Furthermore, the first step toward veganism is a plant-based diet with no animal-based meal, honey, or eggs. However, if you want to know what veganism is, how to become a vegan, or what could be the reason, keep reading this article to the end.
In this article you will read:
Intro to veganism
Firstly, veganism was defined as the principle of freedom of animals from human manipulation. Later, the second definition was introduced, which is the attitude of ending the use of animals by men for food, work, or entertainment.
Changing an inherited lifestyle from the previous generation seems like an impossible process. Right? For instance, what should I eat if I turn to be a vegan? Is it possible to have a meal without beef, meat, fish, or chicken? Here, I’m gonna provide you with an introduction to having a healthy vegan diet.
In this video, we tell you 15 reasons that prove that man was born as a vegetarian from the beginning of creation.
Why veganism?
It’s been around 7 years since I changed my lifestyle and diet. But what was the reason? Mostly, for four main reasons I have decided to become a vegan, the animals’ right, the earth, humans and me. In this part you’re gonna notice deeply why I was eager to go vegan.
Vegansim for the animals and Supporting animals’ right
Relying on the fact that all creatures deserve to live and be free, and humans can live without special animal dishes, skins, and other products.
-
Vegansim For Your Health
A well-planned diet contains healthy guidelines with all the human body’s nutrients. These diet guidelines are specialized for all stages of life and all ages. Researchers link the vegan diet to lower blood pressure, lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, lower cholesterol, and some cancers.

Vegansim For the Environment
All over history, there have been and are various generations of environmentalists and nature lovers who try to reduce pollution. They constantly try to protect the earth and environment from human damage by, for instance, recycling trash or cycling to school and work instead of using personal cars. Now vegans suggest avoiding using animal products by reducing the carbon footprint.
-
Veganism to fight world hunger
A plant-based diet needs only one-third of a diary diet. To increase global food and water reduction, it’s the best time to get help from veganism to reduce the use of food resources. Consequently, most starving people all over the world can have something more to eat. That’s how veganism can support humans . What a nice humanitarian empathy!
What are other aspects of veganism?
There are some other reasons for me and environment lovers to go vegan. Most medicines are tested and experimented on animals before selling for human use. That’s why some vegans decide to participate in these experiments to reduce animal use in medical testing.
Additionally, vegans should be aware of medicines containing animal products, including lactose and gelatins. Therefore, they should ask the pharmacists or search about the medicine ingredients to ensure they are animal-free.
Besides, veganism members don’t participate in hunting, visiting zoos and aquariums, or even dog and horse racing to support the animals’ rights. The best option for vegans is to visit animal sanctuaries to provide homes and safety for rescued animals. I know you love animals the way I love them, that’s why you’re here. Am I right?
What are some compelling arguments against veganism?
As soon as you start veganism, some questions and arguments may come to your mind. Also, as a vegan, you may face non-vegan people who think veganism is impossible. Here are some argumental issues regarding veganism.
- Vegans cannot gain enough calcium without milk.
Plant-based milk, including soya milk or almond milk, contains calcium as much as cow’s milk. Therefore, I decided to replace cow’s milk with almond milk, now you can get enough calcium as I do.
- Veganism is pretentious.
Come on! In every industry and community, you can find some pretentious people. Yeah! There are some pretentious and peachy members in the veganism community, but most vegans are passionate and eager to stop the animals from suffering; that’s why some vegans may be pretentious.
- Veganism needs supplements.
Diversity in vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts can support all nutrition and minerals your body needs. Also, integrating them can increase their nutrition two or three times more.
- It’s impossible to be 100% vegan. Even medicines are tested on animals.
Everyone knows there’s no perfection in the world and vegans never seek perfection. Even the Vegan Society defines Veganism as:
“Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.”
Therefore, Veganism is about what is possible and expectable.
- This is the life circle.
We all know that industrial farm animals keep animals indoors with a particular keeping system. So, their way of living is much far from an ordinary life circle. Yeah! They are not living as they are supposed to do.
- Through Veganism, athletes cannot gain weight or muscles.
History presents a dozen athletes who turned to Veganism and set records as strong men like Patrick Baboumian. Therefore, it’s possible to gain power, size, and muscles through a plant-based diet. Google it for more info.

- Do you force your pets to be vegan?
Cats and dogs instinctively need to eat meat. No one can deny the fact that their body and food systems are different from ours, so as predatory animals, they have the right to eat meat like a lion does.
- Plants are also alive and feel pain. Aren’t they?
It’s undeniable to say plants are also alive. But they cannot feel anything at all. Can they? There’s the fact that plants don’t have a central nervous system and nerves at all to feel something, to feel happy, to feel angry, or to feel pain, but animals do. Animals have central nervous systems, that’s why they feel pain.
- Human teeth are canine, and humans are omnivores, so they need to eat meat.
We have shared features with herbivores than omnivores, including long intestines like most herbivores, no claws, tine canine teeth than real omnivores, and lipping water instead of spinning. Also, the closest animals to us are chimps with a fruit diet, and only 2% of their diets may contain meat.
- Don’t force me to be vegan.
As a vegan, I’m not trying to force you. I’m just informing you about the new habit and new lifestyle with considering other creatures’ rights. It will touch your soul if you see how animals can live without assassination for food, clothes, and even medication experiments. The choice is yours!
- It’s boring to be vegan. The vegan diet is not diverse.
OMG! Veganism is a new lifestyle, so how a new thing can be boring. Also, you know there are plenty of types of vegetables and fruits all over the world, so how veganism diet cannot be diverse? Besides, there are plenty of ways of mixing them to prepare a dish. A rich source of vegetables, fruits, and nuts with various recipes never makes a plant-based diet boring.
- What happens to farm animals that live if everyone turns vegan?
Think wisely! Not everyone can go vegan overnight; it takes time. Imagine, as the number of vegans and plant-based diets increase, the number of farm animals decreases, but not in a flash.
- Veganism is expensive; therefore, Veganism is suitable for rich people.
Veganism suits any budget; it only depends on you. Many vegan primary foods are widely available and cheap enough to start Veganism, such as potatoes, pasta, fruits, etc.
- Veganism causes so many people to lose their jobs.
You know! most industries are flexible enough to adapt their systems to society’s requirements. As Veganism happens gradually, industries have enough time to turn to another version. No worries! Sometimes a little change is needed for everyone to have the time to think deeply.
- How much omega-3 you can gain from plant-based diets without fish.
Do you know fish are not the only source of omega-3? You can gain plenty amount of omega-3 in plant-based sources. Chia seed, walnuts, flaxseed, seeds, and hemp are good sources of omega-3.
- How vegans protect animals’ rights when they have pets.
You’re completely right. But there is an argument among vegan members to see what is the pet industry and if it’s logical to have a pet or not. However, most vegans support the idea of keeping animals as pets as they are rescuing them and providing them with lovely homes and proper foods. Instead of trading and keeping pets as part of the property, we as vegans keep those who need help and support.
In this video, we explained to you what a vegan diet is
What do vegans eat?
At first sight, it would be hard to think of a dish of vegetables and fruits without meat has for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. Boring and impossible!
But due to the fact that veganism presents a diverse and rich diet in all types of vegetables, nuts, fruits, seeds, grains, and beans which are highly packed full of vitamins, minerals, and fibers. I suggest you to integrate these materials in different ways to increase diversity. It just needs kind of creativity.
Meal planning
If you decide to join the veganism community, first, you need to know what you can eat and how you can have a well-planned diet. Consider the following steps to see how you can plan your diet.
Step 1: do the research
For starting veganism, it’s worth devoting time to thorough research. During the research, you should know what proteins and minerals your body needs, what non-animal products contain them, and what alternatives there are for animal resources. Also, it would help if you learned about balancing food groups and how you can get the most of them. This stage will help you to have a framework for planning a vegan diet.
Step 2: analyze your diet
For the next step, analyze and compare your current diary with the healthy vegan framework. Then, you can assess what you need to add to your diet and what you need to export from the diet. Write your everyday diet for around three days, from breakfasts to dinners and drinks and snacks. Then, review the diaries and apply the changes they need. Be the dietitian on your own!
Step 3: develop a plan
For the final step, make a plan. When you do the research and analyze your diet, check the points that need to be improved. Set the goals, short-term and long-term goals. Then, set a plan to achieve them. For instance, in the first stages, reduce the use of animal products and increase the plant-based intakes gradually.

Now! What do you think?
As you deserve to live, all animals should live the way they deserve, too. I’m not trying to force you but asking you a question. What is your belief? Do you decide to slater animals for your own sake, or is it just a norm of your family and society? Most people grew up eating meat and wearing leather and never questioned it.
I want you to question your style, to look into the fact. Now think about the impact of this wrecking lifestyle on your life, planet, and animals; also, decide if veganism aligns with your goals. I want you to live life the way you want, not the life with baseless norms.
Now! if you took the time to think, or generally if you are an environmentalist or eager to support animals’ rights, you can join us and introduce yourself as a veganism member to the world. Welcome to the new version of the life.
