International Animal Rights Day, What should we do?
Do not be indifferent to the rights of animals!
Today is the International Animal Rights Day.
Did you know that we have an awareness day dedicated to animals’ rights?
This day takes place on December 10, and we celebrate the rights of animals annually on December 10.
We vegans and peace advocates celebrate this day to increase people’s awareness of the rights of these living creatures.
The International Animal Rights Day is on the same day as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We believe that all the cruelty we inflict on animals affects our lives
All their moans and pain
their suffering
Moans that cannot be heard and their eyes that shed tears
All these negative emotions enter our human lives
So, I believe that if we can give animals the right to freedom, peace, prosperity and life, we will be closer to world peace.
If you, like me, are against racism, war, prison, rape, murder, displacement, hunger, etc
So let’s give animals rights
In this article you will read:
What was the purpose of having a day dedicated to animal rights
International Animal Rights Day is all about raising awareness around the world about the importance of animal rights.
The whole idea of this day is just to make people more familiar with animal rights and also show them that animals must be treated correctly.
We firmly believe that the suffering of the animals impacts our lives too and that will bring negative energy to our lives and because of that we feel like we have to do something for the animals.
any people don’t pay attention to the fact that all the non-vegan foods that they eat, come with the pain and suffering of animals, which is full of tears.
In order to make this day more viral and groundbreaking, we have to send a bigger message to the world with our actions.
For instance, when we celebrate this day, we will show people that animal rights are not only important but also crucial for world peace.
So, if you are like us vegans and you care about worldwide peace and you are against racism, captivity, torture, war, displacement, and hunger, then you should change your behavior and choices and be the change you want to see in the world.
Why do we celebrate human rights and animal rights on the same day?
First, we can hope for human rights and the rights of people on earth when we can respect the rights of creatures weaker than ourselves and give them the right to peace, justice, life and freedom.
When we don’t show mercy to animals weaker than ourselves and take possession of them by hunting, killing and torturing them, we can’t cry for the right to freedom.
Second, many studies show that humans have evolved as animals, and animal and human rights should not be considered separately.
In my opinion, all creatures on earth should have equal rights, and justice, freedom, and peace are the rights of all creatures.
So we celebrate this day for peace and freedom and the ignored rights of all creatures of the earth, both animals and humans!
On this day, we emphasize the weakened rights of humans, animals and all creatures.
And we ask all people to join us by changing their behavior and choices to move towards the revolution of consciousness.
We wish for a world full of peace without borders and without displacement, war, killing, captivity, hunger and suffering, and at the end of this article, I will suggest ways to join the campaigns and start a new life on this day!
Selfishness of Humans
Sometimes, humans can be too selfish and that affects others.
In this case, the selfishness of humans can lead to over-killing of animals and major environmental problems.
Most humans don’t care about other creatures, and all they think about is themselves.
Some people assume that they can kill animals because humans are the most clever and powerful creatures.
By that logic:
Cows must be milked forever.
Chickens must provide eggs forever.
And the list goes on and on.
You might be surprised if I tell you that some types of cruelty to animals are completely legal and normal, so it is natural that many people still think that humans are the best of creatures and that animals are created for us humans to consume.
We can use animals for entertainment, experiments and food and clothes as we want
In the following, I will deal with the types of cruelty that are now legal and normal and are done against animals.
I will talk about the numbers and statistics of the suffering we inflict on animals, and I will make clear to you the types of legal and illegal cruelty, and I ask you to do something for the rights of animals on this day.
There are lots of other actions that can help us in informing people.
One of them is to show and explain the cruelty of animal farms.
Right off the bat, we will talk about the cruelty and inhumanity of industries that hurt animals.
What rights of animals have we ignored?
Now, we will bring in information with numbers and facts to show you how brutal these industries are.
You might be shocked by the fact some of these cruel acts are completely legal and they look normal to some people.
Are you against prison and captivity? Let me introduce you to some facts:
Harsh Realities of the Poultry Companies
The first thing that the ruthless poultry companies do is that they throw chickens in tiny sheds.
The main problem isnāt the fact that they are locked up in overly crowded sheds that lead to pain and suffering.
Itās all about hygiene! They are all trapped in a dirty and unhygienic place.
Dirty sheds are full of bacteria and other infections that can enter their bodies and thatās not the only threat of unhygienic sheds; dirty sheds can be full of worms and ticks.
Worms and ticks are the most common causes of parasitic diseases.
There are other rules that chicken farms donāt follow, such as the fact that sheds mustnāt be crowded with lots of chickens because that can lead to cannibalism.
Cannibalism happens when chickens feel stressed.
Another brutal act of some companies is that they pluck all the chickens even before the time that they are slaughtered and that makes them suffer, which is known as feather removal.
Plus, there are other merciless acts that companies do for the purpose of avoiding cannibalism, such as debeaking (also known as beak trimming) and using heat lamps.
Growth hormone is something that most chicken farms use, owing to the fact that chickens that are injected with it are going to grow sooner and get bigger and heavier, moreover produce more eggs.
Another fact that has to be mentioned is that hormones can ruin their bodies, and that can lead to early death.
And that is not the worst part!
All the merciless acts that we have mentioned are for companies that only provide chicken meat.
The egg industry is a prime example of something crueler.
Many people donāt know that all of the male chickens that are useless for the egg companies will end up in a metal grinding machine that slaughters them.
This act is labeled as chick culling.
Worldwide, around 7 billion male chicks are culled each year and that’s so brutal, to be fair.
Male chicks are killed at just one day old because they never lay eggs.
Laying hens are sent to slaughter as soon as they are not profitable.
Based on common sense, we all have to know that poultry companies violate animal rights in all of its forms.
We refer to some of our previous articles that were related to veganism:
- Can vegans eat chicken? Reasons + Alternatives
- Which is healthier: Plant-based Chicken Nuggets or Real Chicken Nuggets?
- Do Vegetarians Eat Chicken Broth? The Truth About Vegans and Chicken Broth
Well, now look at your food plate again. Chicken and egg are on your food plate. Produced with suffering and gross violation of animal rights.
The collective sounds of chirping male chickens that are exterminated!
And the chickens who have been in captivity for years in cramped and dark poultry houses.
The Dark Secret Behind the Dairy Industry
Well, have you ever thought about this? Milk really has calcium and is good for our body!
See what we enter into our body with a glass of milk
Every cow in the dairy industry suffers in a certain way!
Some people might assume that nowadays, cows are treated way better and they don’t suffer. They actually suffer more.
Painful milk cups weren’t around in the past.
Plus, nowadays, they inject hormones into the cows so they produce more milk and that really messes up their system.
Basically, by injecting hormones, they try to artificially impregnate the cows so they go through a cycle that puts them in more milk production.
Cows most often develop painful medical conditions.
Every mammal produces milk only for their own baby, just like humans, but dairy companies don’t care about that at all.
Right after birth, calves are taken away from their mothers.
There are still more brutal acts and the ones mentioned earlier aren’t the worst ones.
Farmers heat up iron in a fire and burn young cows’ flesh, known as branding.
Tail docking and dehorning are other cruel acts of dairy companies that are incredibly brutal.
Can Vegetarians Drink Milk?
Suffering in the dairy industry
By eating a glass of milk daily, your bones will not be strengthened; you will bring all the pain and suffering, captivity, rape and torture of cows and goats into your body!
This pain wraps in the human body!
This suffering runs in our blood.
Hear the sound of cows moaning when they separate their calves from them!
In order to experience peace and health in your life, use plant-based dairy products.
Reduce the demand for milk production in livestock farms and do not be indifferent to the captivity and suffering of cows.
The most important animal right is freedom.
They should have the right to hold their calves and breastfeed their children like we do.
Stop exploiting animals
Livestock farms
Conditions in factory farms are far from what is advertised. Modern facilities are built to produce meat and dairy products quickly and cheaply, and animals are given the bare minimum to survive. Most of them never roam free, breathe fresh air, or even see natural daylight.
Industries treat animals like sentient, living machines just for maximum profit. However, these animals are also sentient beings who experience pain, fear, discomfort and distress.
Animal testing
Most of you might have no idea that even some cosmetic brands use animals in their business.
They test their products on innocent animals that are trapped and tortured and most of them suffer and die in this process.
Even if they do not need animal derivatives to produce their products, they still use animals in laboratories to test their products.
You might be surprised if I tell you that many scientific researches have evaluated animal testing as unreliable and new ways don’t need animal testing.
But many industries still keep monkeys, rabbits, dogs and cats in captivity to test their products.
Alternatives to Animal TestingĀ
Waste production by humans
Every minute 3.2 million kilograms of excrement are produced by animals raised for food in the US only.
Waste from a farm of only 2500 dairy cows equals the amount of waste from a city of 411,000 people.
In addition, we easily leave millions of cigarette filters and plastic in nature and harm the habitat of thousands of living creatures.
Plastics and other chemicals can harm the health of animals, birds, and fish. Many birds accidentally swallow these wastes and plastics, and this causes their death.
Cigarette butts that humans throw in nature can remain in the sand hills and grasslands for years and endanger the lives of animals.
Plastic residue in nature can produce poison, and when it enters an animal’s body, it can block its digestive system and cause suffocation.
You see how we can be dangerous to other animals when we go on a picnic!
By consuming plastic, producing gasoline, and polluting the air, we endanger the lives of many other creatures and deprive them of their natural right to breathe.
All our carelessness in nature leads to forest fires, air pollution, the drying up of oceans and rivers, and global warming.
If it continues, the earth will no longer be suitable for humans.
Over-fishing
Oh, our body needs omega-3, so we allow ourselves to destroy the seas and oceans
These facts below are mind-blowing!
90 million tons of fish are pulled from the oceans each year.
It is estimated that between 0.97 and 2.7 trillion fish are caught yearly.
Overfishing is a real threat to nature.
Fishing increases the risk of extinction of many other marine species.
In the past few years, hundreds of sharks and dolphins have committed suicide due to not having their basic rights of food and water.
Do you think choking is scary?
Do not impose on any other being what you cannot bear as a human being!
Animal use in the entertainment industry
Well, you are against exploitation!
You are also against prison and captivity!
What is your opinion about the use of animals in pet industries – circuses – zoos –
What do you think about international games such as horse riding, carriage riding, bull games, and dog games?
Do you think animals are happy to be kept in a cage that has to perform funny movements for you to get food?
Do you think that the fish that are locked in the aquarium or the dolphins that perform a show for you, their basic rights, i.e., freedom, are respected?
As long as we buy pets and support these industries, they become more and more powerful and ignore the rights of these animals.
Zoos and dolphinariums have to be shut down because they violate animal rights.
Killing Animals for Clothes
Although we are in the 21st century, clothing brands still make clothes from animalsā skin.
And it is completely unfair that people tend to kill animals for their own needs, even if it is for clothes.
There are a lot of brands that are well-known and luxury that still kill animals to make clothes.
They skin or pluck animals while they are still alive, and thatās really inhumane, but the cruel clothing industries donāt care.
And they easily get away with it because of the help of celebrities and propaganda.
Many times, animals are hurt and injured for wool spinning, but it is not important for the wool industry.
Otter tails and skin of tigers, cats, and foxes are used for the fur industry.
Birds’ wings are sold at high prices. Advertisements and media have made a product made from the suffering and torture of animals to be considered luxury. Many celebrities and rich people feel powerful by wearing animal skins and furs.
Campaigns have tried their best to stop those brands from killing animals and their rallies have helped in a certain way, but we can still see that some brands continue to make that type of clothing.
So, going on rallies and cursing those brands isnāt enough.
However, there is a thoughtful way that can help us in breaking this cycle.
We can basically stop this process by showing no interest in products that contain skin, fur, feathers, etc.
When there is no demand for any kind of these products, these brands will stop killing animals.
So, may they stop killing animals.
As long as our wardrobes are full of leather bags and shoes, fur and woolen coats, as long as we buy buffalo or cow skin sofas, as long as we spread tiger or cow skins in our rooms and severed animal heads decorate our homes. Yes, we are far from world peace!
How can we strive for human rights when we, as nature’s most evolved creatures, keep elephant tusks, deer antlers, hides, hair and wool and severed heads of animals at home and wear clothes made from animals?
How can we talk about our human rights when we don’t have rights for the most oppressed and innocent animals?
We are against ISIS, but we are silent about torturing animals!
We are against mass slaughter, but we are indifferent to hunting deer, tigers and other animals.
The next three headings are taken from the veganism and climate change facts article:
Veganism and Climate Change Facts
These environmental issues showcase the selfishness of humans and their decisions.
Pollution
Animal agriculture produces 65% of the worldās nitrous oxide emissions and the global impact of it is 296 times greater than carbon dioxide.
It can be said that around 15% of global greenhouse emissions result from livestock farming.
Itās good to know that cows that are raised for beef need a huge amount of food and water.
And since the world population goes up over time, the need for food goes up too, so demands for meat get way higher as time goes on, and that means that more greenhouse gas emissions are on the way.
Water Pollution
The production of poultry, dairy, eggs, and meat still causes water pollution since they produce a gigantic amount of waste that can affect the weather.
Through the years, all the global health organizations and health activists have shown prime examples of why meat industries have a direct impact on the corruption of water.
As said, not only do farm animals take up a huge percentage of the world’s freshwater, but livestock waste is absolutely a part of water contamination.
Besides animal farmsā high usage and waste of water, they cause water pollution by polluting the water in different ways.
As you know, the weather is one of the main rights of us earthlings
We need a clean climate to live on earth, and now, with the expansion of animal husbandry, we are depriving our future generations of this right.
Animal Rights
As of now, you must know that animals have rights.
But what are they?
The Humane League has defined animal rights:
āAnimal rights are moral principles grounded in the belief that non-human animals deserve the ability to live as they wish, without being subjected to the desires of human beings.
At the core of animal rights is autonomy, which is another way of saying choice.
In many countries, human rights are enshrined to protect certain freedoms, such as the right to expression, freedom from torture, and access to democracy.
Of course, these choices are constrained depending on social locations like race, class, and gender, but generally speaking, human rights safeguard the basic tenets of what makes human lives worth living.
Animal rights aim to do something similar, only for non-human animalsā
Therefore, even if animals are going to be slaughtered, they should be killed humanely which means they should die in an instant with no pain or stress.
Although these rights exist, we still see the cruelty and brutality in slaughterhouses.
In simple words, most companies and sometimes the government donāt care about animal rights.
Let’s talk more about the Bill of Rights for Animals
You can have access to the leaked camera footage of slaughterhouses on the internet and then you will be able to see that they torture animals to death.
When we respect animal rights, the cycle of nature goes right back to normal.
Every year in the world, millions of animals are used in various scientific experiments. They are poisoned, burned, exposed to many diseases, paralyzed, blind, starved and brain damaged, all of which are done under the name of science and helping the progress of human society.
According to the laws, suffocation and electrocution are prohibited in slaughterhouses, or torturing them or killing them in front of each other is prohibited, but this is being done in many slaughterhouses!
Because no one thinks about how the meat that is sold in the stores with stylish packaging died!
But I want to talk about an issue that is not considered in the animal rights charter:
Millions of animals are killed for food in the world. Most of these animals are kept at high densities, with no clean air whatsoever and many of them do not even see sunlight. They are highly sensitive to diseases and antibiotics that are normally used to suppress infectious diseases, and their daily needs for a healthy and stress-free life are never considered.
Animals feel pain and become depressed when faced with separation from their child and family.
They have the right to have medical facilities with full consideration during illness and to be safe from any abuse.
Animals have the right to live in peace, where all lives are respected and all cruelty is minimized.
Understanding veganism and basic animal rights
The basis of veganism is the right to life of animals. Animal rights is that all animals have the right to own their property and live, breathe and be free, similar to the rights we consider for humans.
Animals should not be considered the property of humans.
We don’t have the right to impose suffering on these creatures for our food and clothing.
We do not have the right to use them for entertainment and transportation
Or for scientific studies and use them as laboratory animals
Being vegan is one of the best things you can do to prevent animal cruelty.
This means that fewer animals are raised on farms to suffer and die.
All animals deserve to live without harm or suffering.
To achieveĀ human rights, we must return the basic rights of animals and other creatures to them.
With becoming vegan and reducing the demand for meat – dairy – fur and, wool – and other animal products, collective awareness is gradually increasing.
By becoming a vegan, your habits and behaviors will change for the better
You become kinder and calmer
We believe in a world where there is no cruelty to animals and humans live in harmony with nature.
What To Do on Animal Rights Day
As we all know, in this world, animals arenāt only killed for food; they are also being killed for other stuff.
Even if they are not being killed, they are being used in different ways and thatās nothing but suffering and pain.
We vegans always help the environment and animals directly by participating in environmentally friendly and beneficial activities, as well as by not consuming meat and animal products.
We consider and demand the right to life for all beings
We are against speciesism and racism, so we consider the right to life not only for cats and dogs but also for all creatures, such as fish, goats, cows, elephants, deer, chickens, otters, snakes, etc.
So far, the article has dealt with the issue of what rights of animals are legally and illegally undermined. Here, I’ll guide you on how to celebrate this day.
Letās get into the activities that animals are a part of
-
Be active on social media
Share a story or write a tweet, publish a post, follow hashtags, and support animal rights activists.
If you are against the torture and imprisonment of humans, don’t be indifferent to the imprisonment of millions of cows, sheep, chickens, roosters, pigs, and other animals.
Follow vegan pages and pages and publish posts
Follow the #Animal_Rights_Day hashtag and share related posts
Also, donāt forget to use hashtags so you will follow the algorithm.
-
Avoid buying animal body parts
Decide not to buy clothes made of wool, fur, leather and animal feathers. To produce clothes, you can choose organic and special brands that do not cause suffering to creatures.
Don’t be indifferent to the skin, wool and feathers of animals being ripped alive in the clothing industry
-
Banned places
Thousands of animals, fishes, and living creatures in zoos, bullfights, horse riding and dolphinarium are captured by humans. Zoo means watching animals in captivity.
Decide to go to nature to have fun
Ban zoos, prisons, and prisons forever!
These places are banned in the vegan community and if you care about animals, you must not go to any of these places where animals are being tortured for entertainment, like circuses, dolphinariums, zoos, etc.
-
Avoid buying pet
By buying pets, you help those companies who sell animals and treat them like products.
Try to adopt animals rather than buy them.
This is really important; instead of buying animals and treating them like products, try to adopt a pet.
Some of the pet companies don’t care about animals at all and all they think about is their own profit.
Bear in mind that some pets that don’t have owners or, let’s say, lost animals will be euthanized by animal shelters due to different reasons.
Instead of buying a pet, you can adopt them or give food and water to street animals.
-
Participate in campaigns
Help organizations that rescue and care for animals. Participate in advocacy campaigns and sign petitions and laws protecting animal rights.
Join the events held on this day and support organizations that help animals.
-
Decide to buy cruelty-free products.
Decide today to choose cruelty-free and animal-friendly cosmetics. Support brands that do not participate in animal testing.
Pay attention to the “No Animal Testing” label on the products.
-
Watch documentaries
I suggest you watch documentaries to have a better understanding of animal rights.
You can watch these documentaries on Animal Rights Day:
- The animal people
- Dominion
- Blackfish
- Cowspiracy
- Seaspiracy
- The Game Changers
- That Also Breathes short film
-
Follow pages that make content about veganism
You can learn more about veganism in different ways.
You can watch documentaries, you can read magazines, articles, websites, etc.
Many websites, pages, and apps can help you start a life without meat and dairy
Find plant-based alternatives
And reduce your consumption of meat, poultry, dairy, and eggs
Then, you have to take action.
At least try to do something that is in favor of veganism.
It can be either the challenge of trying vegan foods or eating less meat.
Final Words
Final Words
The only message that we wanted to send in this article was that animals have rights and we should treat them correctly even if we are not vegan.
Because animals live in this world like us, and they should be able to live in this world without the fear of getting killed or tortured.
We have been treating animals really awful for centuries, only because they can’t walk like us.
We can basically see how the killing of innocent animals has impacted the world and our lives, like wars and the killing of people followed by droughts and hunger.
We can’t find peace if we eat the meat of an animal that has suffered for a long time.
Besides the direct help of veganism, we demonstrated the fact that the suffering of animals isn’t just summed up in being slaughtered for food since some companies use animals to entertain people.
You can just celebrate this day by not doing those activities, and it’s really easy.
Don’t be apathetic and indifferent, and consider taking action because all of us have to do something.
Don’t think that these problems will be fixed by themselves.
We must stand up and do something.
Start with yourself and make a change.
If you want to give yourself a right as a human being, first, it is better to give that right to the beings who are weaker than you!
After all, it should be clear to you that it’s not important if you are vegan or not; just try to save and help animals from now on.
From now on, All of us are supposed to do something for the animals on December 10.
Research, see animal documentation and animal farm facts, and decide to make a change within yourself.
Tell me in the comment section about how you celebrated Animal Rights Day.
